Family Solutions Training in Bermuda

In September of 2009, Executive Director, Dr. William Quinn and Program Coordinator, Theresa Jurgensen traveled to Devonshire, Bermuda to conduct a two-day Family Solutions Program training for 19 professionals on the island.  After the 2 day training, the Bermudian Family Solutions Program leaders and FSP staff devoted half a day conducting SWOT analyses and creating concrete implementation plans for the agencies represented at the training.  This additional day provided the professionals in Bermuda the opportunity to engage in interagency, small group discussions to determine the most effective ways to implement FSP on the island.  We are pleased to announce that 19 outstanding educators and treatment providers are now trained and ready to implement the Family Solutions Program.  We look forward to our continued collaboration on the beautiful island of Bermuda!

Richland 2 School District Reduces Truancy and Suspensions with the Family Solutions Program

Richland 2 South Carolina School District announces in their recent report to the South Carolina State Department of Education that the Family Solutions Program is effective. The report states that “what we know is that the Family Solutions Program has been used successfully in our district to more positively engage families in the education process and to reduce the likelihood of failing, going to court for truancy, or being expelled from school” . Among 227 students who participated in an expulsion hearing and were referred to and participated in the Family Solutions Program during the 2008-09 school year, 203 (84%) remained in the school district through the end of the year while a small number transferred and only 5 were expelled. In addition, scores measuring students’ attitudes, including motivation, academic self-perception and self-regulation, improved and were statistically significant.   One student remarked, “the FSP has helped me be more responsible at home and at school”, and one parent wrote, “my daughter has improved her attitude a lot and I have improved mine too…. I’ve become a more positive person and we listen to each other’. Click here for the full report.
